A strange one....

The little sister of one of my best friends had a baby girl today. I asked her a couple months ago what she wanted in a baby quilt. She said pink and leopard. Not what I would have chosen... It is cuter than I thought it was going to be, though.

My newest BAG LADIES purse

I finished my Amy Butler BIRDIE SLING bag this morning. I LOVE this bag! It was fun to make from a cute bunch of fat quarters I bought at JoAnn Fabric with a 50% off coupon, and added some coordinating Thimbleberries fabric from the quilt shop. It took approximately two yards of fabric. It is a huge bag. The parts have a fusible interfacing, and the lining has a heavier fusible fleece backing. It has two pockets inside. I keep wondering why I pay $25 for the bag ladies class, but I have learned ALOT in the two classes I attended. My big goal is to learn to sew in a zipper closure. This picture really does not do this bag justice...I will show it off at the craft day at Joann's on the 7th. Joann's purses are AMAZING, like mine, the picture really do not do them justice, she sews sew beautifully. I am looking forward to attending a craft show, and showing off our creations.

Ok so I found the "New Post" and it looks like here is where I can get the pictures... Yep here they are. The Black Butterfly measures 9" deep, 14" wide, and has a zip closure.
The Litttle Brown one, is 4" deep and 12" wide. The flowers are "iron on". The Purple Print and Black Multi are both 9" deep and 12 1/2" wide. The one as you can see has a flap and magnetic snap and the purple just has the magnetic snap.
So, I'looking forward to having all of you on the 7th.
See you then.

Master Quilt

I made this quilt in about an hour. Let me know what you think. I haven't quilted it yet, because I don't have a needle that would make it through the layers.

old project

I told Joanne I was going to post this when I was trying to describe the crazy curves pattern to her. I loved how this project turned out. It is still not bound in this picture. The binding was black.

Feather Practice

This is my latest project. The piecing is called "tossed nine patch" a very simple pattern. The quilting is mostly feather practice. I made a huge mistake, I put the back on inside out! Duh!.
Here's an update. I did what Candi said and added the huge label to cover the mistake. Here is a picture.
I have been quilting for about four years now, and I have never made this mistake before.

Special Customer Quilt

It's tough taking a good picture of a large quilt. This quilt is 85 by 100, and I did it for a customer. I was working at the Touch of Thread Quilt Gallery, where I "work" every Tuesday, and this man walks in with a bag of blocks and asks if anybody can finish this quilt for him. His wife was making it for her son and she died before she finished it. I took on the job.

It was my job to sew the blocks together, put on borders, quilt and then put binding on. I loved working on this quilt. It seems to have a good spirit, it was one of those quilts where nothing goes wrong from start to finish. I hope he likes it.

Candi's Current Crafts

Sadly, our craft day at Joann's was cancelled yesterday. :( Well, Trisha and I had to take Mikey to Brunswick for a day with his Nana Muhlhan yesterday morning. (they went to see Sesame Street Live at the State Theatre in Cleveland, and Trish and I were not invited) So, we decided to visit with Joann and Bob before heading back to Akron...as the time approached for us to leave to take Mikey, the horrible snow that was supposed to hit us started to look as if it might miss us after all, so we decided, what the heck? Lets take the sewing machines just in case...we had previously just planned to take some show and tell items for coffee time. It ended up that we had about 4 hours of nice show and tell and a little sew time. Joann had some nice stuff to share with us, buttons, fabric, buckles, thread...and wow are her purses NICE, I hope she posts them soon....

For those of you who missed our little show and tell, I can't possibly wait two weeks to share the stuff I have been working on. First, I have posted the pictures of the pieces to my current "BAG LADIES CLUB" project, that I will be finishing at a class on Wednesday evening. (I will bring the finished bag with me for our craft day) Do you all know you can enlarge the image by clicking on the photo if you want a better look?

The second picture are the two blocks of the month I am doing. The first is called "Flirty Thirties", and is done in retro fabrics and the patterns are inspired by the 1930's, there will also be an applique butterfly square which I have not done yet, but will post when I do. The square next to it in the picture is my "3 Dimensional" quilt block of the month...it is different in that, the design is not all sewed and pressed, but is folded and sewed on one or two sides, with the fold loose from the block. The finished quilt looks like very colorful oragami art. It will be awesome when it is finished.

I am looking forward to seeing Joann's purses and Elizabeth's baby clothes that they have been sewing. Both of them have promised to post them on the blog...Come on ladies!

Super Hero!!!

Ok... this was no big project, in fact it only took about 20 minutes to whip this one up. but he looks so stinkin cute in this that I had to post it. I made a super hero cape for Mikey yesterday. He has been running around in it saying he is batman. Haha.

Today's project

I made a purse for my friend, Maggie, for her birthday. This is a paperpieced heart on the front, it has about forty-five pieces. As I cut down the time it actually takes me to assemble the purse, I experiment with more artsy fartsy ways to make them more beautiful. I like the paper piecing, it really gives the purse a personal look. The next one I think I want to make looks like fish swimming, and the fish interlock like puzzle pieces. But...need to take time to work on the block of the month project now...I am doing a 3 dimensional quilt for my bedroom.

Let's Get Together

Hi All,

Let's set a date to have another craft day together! I'm proposing Saturday, February 21, at Joann's house. Let's meet there at noon, and I'll bring some carry out Pantera's for lunch. Then we will sew and craft to our heart's content.

Todays Project

I set out to find out how long it would take me to sew a purse now that I am familiar with the steps...I was also curious how much I would spend on just enough fabric for one purse. I spent $7.35 on this, excluding batting. I bought batting, but have enough left for probably eight more purses. I made this for my mother in law...it has a simple applique on back- five tear drop shaped petals, and a covered button in the middle. I quilted the back with a flower echo, and the front with diamonds.
