PUT ME IN THE ZOO Snuggly

I created this snuggly for a cousin of Randy's daughter's baby shower, then I packed it up with other misc. gifts, and tucked the hood underneath the bottom pouch as a gift bag. The idea came from PUT ME IN THE ZOO. I have always wanted to make a baby shower themed around favorite childhood books, and have everyone (as part of their gift) bring a favorite childhood book to start the baby's library. I may do that for Jessica, so start thinking of books.

The fabric in this snuggly is comfy fleece...it is SEW soft! The dots are appliqued on.

I should have taken a pic of it folded up, but just imagine the hood portion not there....it holds everything securely together. Its actually a very attractive gift bag.

I was going to put a face on the hood, but decided against it. How could I make a face as cute as a little baby's face poking out under the hood?

Ready to start Quilting

This is a picture of a quilt I am making for Krisha. It's on my frame, ready to start quilting. What you can't see on this photo is the Unicorn that is in the middle. I think I posted that earlier when I finished making it. I finally finished all the piecing last night. Now, to start quilting! As I quilt, I will add to this post so you can see the progression of the quilt.

Here is a video of my quilting. Having this machine is like having an employee who never complains, just keeps on working and working. She rarely even takes a break.

Okay, now I have quilted some of the unicorn, hand guided. In other words, I didn't let the computer do the quilting on the unicorn. I took over the quilter from her and did some custom quilting on my own. I hope I didn't ruin the unicorn!

Ohio Hills .Folk Festival

This week, Paul and I attended the Ohio Hills Folk Festival in Quaker City, Ohio. It is unbelieveable how many people come to this tiny town for this festival.

I won quite a few awards at the quilt show, but the most interesting is the first place ribbon on a quilt that I started with buying the unfinished top on Ebay and then I finished it but was unhappy with it. Sew, I donated it to a charity auction. Well, somebody bought it, and entered it into the quilt show. She has been heard explaining how she embroidered and made the quilt! In the pictures, it's the one with embroidered blocks and red white and blue ribbon between the blocks. There is no way this is not the quilt I did!

Also, I won overall "Special Recognition" for the Underground Railroad quilt pictured.

I participated in the parade last night on my bike, pulling the float I made to advertise my business. I thought I would get a ribbon for the float, but I didn't. Still, it was fun riding it in the parade

My Favorite Customer quilt yet

The customer brought the quilt, and it was sew precious I was afraid to quilt it. The embroidered blocks were made years ago by my customer and her sister and two brothers! They are nursery rhyme blocks. I finished quilting it last night, and she picked it up today and LOVED my work. This is really good because she is a new customer. I'm posting a picture of one of the blocks, and the whole quilt.

Harley baby quilt

I made this quilt for the same couple as the purple diaper bag. I was friends with the man before he started dating her... and I wanted to make his son's quilt with him in mind. He loves riding Harleys. He loves his Lamborghini too... but good luck finding fabric with Lamborghinis on it.

I had a hard time finding fabric I liked that was harley or motorcycle themed... so I used Mom's digitizing software to create a harley shield shaped applique... and we both LOVED how it turned out. I think Mark will be thrilled with this. I used red fuzzy fabric for the backing and blue satin binding which I still have to finish hand sewing as well as sewing on the tag and taking a cloth to wipe the fabric pencil marks off the front.

Thank you Mom for your help with this project.... she helped me to quilt it and make the binding (I hate satin binding and will never ever mess with that crap again... or at least I keep telling myself that). Oh... and the shield was her idea too. (give credit where credit is due, right?)

Purple Diaper bag

A friend of mine is have a baby. She is due four weeks after me... and her favorite color is purple. So I made her this bag =) I used a purple microsuede kind of upholstry fabric, a beautiful black fabric with purple embroidery and I used a silver lining (Mom found this funny... think about it).
I used a pattern I bought at a quilt shop in Elyria when I was with Mom and Sharon... but altered the pattern to include a back panel of pockets and a zipper. (I don't like bags with big openings to not have zippers. I guess I am weird.)
